As we all know Microsoft has released the final version of Windows XP SP3 to public and its available via Automatic Updates, Windows Updates and Downloads Center.I have tried setting all services to default like Black Viper says for XP Professional SP3 and all seem to be fine.I have run all Microsoft Fix Its I could find including and also performed all manual repair steps on that page. Microsoft Security Essentials is getting updated properly but earlier I was getting updates for it via Windows Update also.Information about products not manufactured by Apple, or independent websites not controlled or tested by Apple, is provided without recommendation or endorsement.
Doesn't matter if I select Express or Custom, it is stuck for hours at "Checking for the latest updates for your computer".But after the service pack 2 update has been downloaded and I try to install it, I get an error message saying "Service Pack 2 Setup Error: Failed to install catalog files." Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone know how to solve the error?I use a 20" i Mac with a 2GHz core duo processor, 4GB of RAM, a 250GB HD and Mac OS X 10.5.4.Carrying on without support and an increased security risk is an unappealing prospect, so if you don’t have a migration plan, it’s really time you put one together. In many cases, your easiest option will be simply to buy a new PC with a more up-to-date version of Windows preinstalled – especially if your current system dates from the early years of Windows XP.
